Stray Rescue of St. Louis came across a St. Bernard named Stu who was in a pitiful state. Unlike the average weight of 120-180 pounds for adult St. Bernards, Stu only weighed a mere 43 pounds as he was severely undernourished and emaciated. The rescue team found him in a heartbreaking condition, soaked in urine, dehydrated, and too weak to even lift his head. Upon his arrival, we gave him a good wash, warmed him up, hydrated him, and fed him a small meal. His body was in desperate need of calories and nutrients. The first night was nerve-wracking as we were unsure if he would pull through,” shared Stray Rescue of St. Louis in a social media update. With his blood work showing erratic results, all we could do was keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. This meal at the shelter could have very well been his first in a long while.

Stu displayed remarkable fighting spirit and determination throughout the ordeal. Not only did he manage to survive the night, but he also greeted his rescuers the following morning with a wagging tail and affectionate kisses.
